different.

the past haunts us sometimes.
a new year brings about new beginnings.
so i'm trying to leave everything bad behind and look.
this time, i think i'm going to look ahead.

BACK! in Shanghai

Since my daddy seems so busy at the moment, i shall post the pictures in another post next time. Anyway, before you decide to scream at me or whatever, let me explain why i have not blogged in 3 days. I WENT TO BEIJING DURING THE WEEKEND!!!and i totally forgot to wish YN a happy birthday, so YN, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!

Below is a what i did on both days, not all that interesting, but still.

22NOV2008 SATURDAY

After 10 hours of train ride, we reached BeiJing around 7.10a.m.
We went for breakfast, then the driver dad hired brought us to The Great Wall of China to climb part of it, since it's impossible to climb the entire wall unless you have nothing better to do or you're just dumb. That was definitely the coldest place we went in BeiJing cos the rest of the places were not as cold as that. Then again, it should be colder due to the altitude and all. hahas. Anyway, the surrounding was super cool. Mountains and Mountains and Mountains. The view was simply breathtaking~

ok. i'm getting carried away.

Next, we went for lunch cos we actually spent half a day climbing up and down the Great Wall. Blahs. Boring to read right?

The driver then drived around bringing us to the BIRD NEST STADIUM and THE WATER CUBE,which is super super cool even though we didn'tpay to go in the places, but they have not removed the Olympic stuff from the place yet. hahas. On the way, we passed the Olympic Village which is ALMOST deserted since nobody stays in the apartments anymore since Olympic is over. Imagine MichaelPhelps staying in one of the apartments. hahas. The Olympic Village really lives up to its name.it's really like a village cos the area is HUGE! hahas. Honestly, Spore is not big enough to sacrifice so much space to make an Olympic Village as big as this one in BeiJing.

anyway, we discovered later on that we still had some time, so we went to some place known as the Temple Of Heaven, which is another huge place and seems more like a garden with some buildings. Ancient Buildings. I don't get it how the people have to build such a ginormous temple just for the emperor to go there to pray for a good harvest the following year. Anyway, the designs on the walls were similar to that of the Forbidden City, similar colours and dragons and stuff.

23NOV2008 SUNDAY
Today we didn't hire any driver so we took cabs around.

We went to the imperial palace also known as the Forbidden City. The place is impressively huge. The front door itself was a massive structure with the walls really realy thick.
In the place, you'd see how much the people must have suffered simply bringing in the slabs of marble into the capital to build the palace. Almost every step is made of marble, not to mention a design on each slope.
But i'd say that the doors were the most impressive thing in the palace. the doors were all red and gold, and looked striking and beautiful. hahas. lack of description. ya, i know. but whatever.
In any part of the palace that is above ground level, look around in all directions, and all you see are roofs and roofs and more roofs. it's really like a city considering its size on its own.
The garden is way more beautiful. in an ancient kind of way. They have trees entwined together forming one tree at the top which is really bootiful, plus the barks of the trees are so smooth making the tree appear as if its fake, but its not.

enough bout the palace. After that, we went shopping! hahas. but we didn't buy anything though. there was nothing very impressive that we haven't seen in Shanghai. hahas. however i finally got a chance to try the "bing tang hu lu" which tastes super nice! hahas. u should try it. it's sweet, warm and slightly sour, making it super tasty in winter time. hahas.

We had picking duck for dinner at some known restaurant called the "Quan Ju De" where the chefs actually slice the entire duck in front of you. Anyway, its not as impressive as expected, since i seriously think the one we ate at Takashimaya was better than this one.

So after that we went back to the train station to take the train back to Shanghai. Guess what train did we take? we took "THE OLYMPIC TRAIN" back to shanghai. hahas. my mum was joking the entire trip that Phelps might have slept on the very bed i was sleeping on, but i know i'm never that lucky. hahas. but i'd say i'm lucky enough to be able to sit the olympic train back to shanghai instead of some normal train. hahas.

THOUGHTS
1.i have no idea how in the world people managed to walk so much in the past considering the fact that the places are Ginormous.

2. TBC. i can't think of anything else now. hahas.
